More than 10,000 athletes and spectators came together in Adelaide in October 2019 for the 17th Australian Masters Games. This is regarded as one of the premier and largest participation sporting events on the Australian sporting calendar. The Masters Games involves more than 40 different sports for people over the age of 30. Two of our Y Striders were there to take part – Kokoda Kerrie participated in the Netball and Michael C took part in the Dragon Boat racing.
Michael’s team, the Cockburn Blades received a silver and bronze medal in the men’s and women’s Dragon Boat racing. His team was spurred along by Kerrie’s mini cheer squad on the banks of West Lakes in Scullers Reserve.
Kerrie joined up with a netball team from the Gold Coast. What a fantastic effort! They lost by only 2 goals in a playoff for the Gold and Silver medal, and then just missed out on a bronze medal.
Be prepared fellow Y Striders! Kerrie is on the case to recruit for the next Master’s games which is to be held in PERTH in 2021. She says it was such a great experience and she just knows that more Y Striders will want to take part.
